Brend Bunte’s love of designing, music, and unique guitars began over 20 years ago. Since 2006, he has been building, customizing, and repairing guitars and a variety of string instruments. From 2008, he was a teacher at the renowned guitar-building school at Montsalvat in Eltham, where he shared his expertise with aspiring luthiers. Now, he operates from his workshop in the rolling hills of Cottles Bridge, crafting custom guitars from Australian tonewoods and running courses where students can build their own instruments.
Brend is passionate about both creating and teaching, offering hands-on guitar-building courses that cater to musicians, woodworkers, and enthusiasts alike. His experience extends internationally, having taught in Tasmania, Japan, and France. With a commitment to keeping the tradition of handcrafted guitars alive, his courses provide an in-depth understanding of the instrument-making process, from selecting tonewoods to final setup.
His open studio offers visitors the opportunity to witness the intricate process of guitar building firsthand, engage with his work, and explore the artistry behind handcrafted instruments. In addition to building guitars, Brend provides expert servicing for guitars, violins, and cellos, as well as professional piano tuning. By combining his expertise in lutherie with a dedication to education and instrument care, Brend continues to foster a deep appreciation for fine craftsmanship, ensuring the legacy of handcrafted instruments thrives for future generations.
