Valerie was born overseas on lovely island called Sri Lanka to British parents. The family moved to Australia when she was four. Since picking up a pencil as a toddler she has not stopped drawing. Living in South Gippsland for several years and painting full time she entered many shows and won awards throughout Gippsland. A move back to Melbourne meant a disruption to her full-time art, however she continued privately by undertaking occasional commission work.
As an emerging artist living in Nillumbik Shire, she enjoys painting and drawing in various mediums including watercolour, oil, acrylic, ink, and charcoal. Current member of Box Hill Art Group and Diamond Valley Arts Society. In 2021 awarded First Prize - best works on paper for the Box Hill Art Group show. In 2019 won People’s choice award at the Box Hill Art Group 67th Annual competition. The subject matter Valerie enjoys is varied and includes landscapes, the female form, flora and fauna. The artistic community has been very supportive and inspirational. Valerie’s connection to this beautiful area has been the love of green spaces the bird life and beautiful Yarra River walks.
